On a quiz for The Kite Runner, a novel about a boy growing up in Afghanistan who flees to the U.S. with his father after the political upheaval only to later return to rescue his nephew:
Question 1: Explain how Hassan dies.
Answer from one of my seniors: Shot in the back of the head by a member of the Tally Band.
I gave her full credit, chuckling about the possibility of Osama bin Laden and his Tally Band of Terrorists.

Don't doubt yourself as a teacher. I hear doubt in your writing...you are probably a great teacher, altho I don't know who you are. The way you talk about the kids, with respect and love and hope is exactly what our city needs.

Didn't any of your English teachers ever tell you that the ending isn't important, it's the storytelling that we read and appreciate? What happens is not as important as how it happens? I guess that's my way of saying, yes, I've spoiled the book. But you should still read it.
